Wine-growing Burgundy is closely linked to the medieval and monastic history of wine since the 7th century. It is in Burgundy that some of the greatest wines in the world are found. Burgundy offers a pyramidal classification based on regional appellations, then village appellations, appellations linked to so-called climates or places, then 1er Crus and finally at the top of the Grands Crus. Burgundy produces white (62%), red and rosé (30%) and Crémants (8%) wines from mainly Chardonnay and Pinot Noir but also from Aligoté and Gamay. There are 23 regional appellations, these appellations encompass the entire production of Burgundy, such Burgundy, Bourgogne Chitry, Bourgogne Côtes Chalonnaise, Bourgogne Hautes Côtes de Beaune, Hautes Côtes de Nuits and many others, 44 Village appellations bear the name of the town where the vines are located, Aloxe-Corton, Beaune, Chassagne Montrachet, Gevrey-Chambertin, Givry, Meursault, Pommard, Rully, Santenay, Volnay etc ... some plots of these villages are named as climat or Places said for their specificities and are classified as 1er Cru including, Chablis 1er Cru "Fourchaume", Morey-Saint -Denis 1er Cru "Les Millandes", Nuits-Saint-Georges 1er Cru "Aux Chaignots" or Pommard 1er Cru "Clos des Orchards ". Finally, 33 Grands Crus appellations make the world reputation of Burgundy such as Clos de Tart, Corton, Echezeaux, Montrachet, Romanée Conti, La Tâche, Richebourg.
