Louis Jadot’s 2023 Couvent des Jacobins Burgundy Red is made exclusively from Pinot Noir, Burgundy’s iconic grape variety. It reveals a refined bouquet of cherry, raspberry, blackcurrant, violet and delicate spices, enhanced by a subtle hint of oak. On the palate, the texture is supple, the tannins are fine and silky, whilst the freshness brings balance and elegance. This Burgundy Red is the perfect accompaniment to roast poultry, grilled meats, slow-cooked dishes, fine charcuterie and soft or mature cheeses.
Description
Founded in 1859, Louis Jadot is one of Burgundy’s leading names. The 2023 Couvent des Jacobins Burgundy Red is made exclusively from Pinot Noir grapes sourced mainly from the Côte Chalonnaise, where the clay-limestone soils encourage the expression of vibrant fruit and beautiful finesse. Following a meticulous selection process during the harvest, the grapes are vinified using traditional Burgundian methods. The wine is then aged for eight to ten months in stainless-steel tanks and barrels from the estate’s own cooperage, to impart complexity and elegance whilst respecting the grape variety’s identity.
The brilliant ruby colour heralds an expressive nose dominated by cherry, raspberry, wild strawberry and blackcurrant. Upon aeration, notes of violet, white pepper, liquorice, forest floor and a slight toasty hint emerge. On the palate, the attack is supple and rich. The delicate, perfectly integrated tannins support a fruity, well-balanced body. The natural freshness of the Pinot Noir carries the flavours through to a lingering, elegant and subtly spicy finish.
Served at between 15 and 16 °C, this red Burgundy is the ideal accompaniment to pork fillet, roast poultry, duck breast, grilled beef, mushroom risotto or Burgundian cheeses. Ready to drink now, it will also develop harmoniously over the next two to five years when cellared.
