Pierre-Yves Colin-Morey’s Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru La Maltroie 2023 is a great Burgundy white wine made exclusively from Chardonnay. Hailing from the famous La Maltroie vineyard, it captivates with its refined bouquet blending lemon, pear, white peach, acacia blossom, fresh hazelnut and flint. On the palate, it is full-bodied, precise and perfectly balanced between richness, freshness and minerality. Its salty, long and lingering finish reveals all the nobility of this Premier Cru. A prestigious cuvée that will perfectly complement shellfish, fine fish and poultry in a creamy sauce.
Description
The Chassagne-Montrachet Premier Cru La Maltroie 2023 perfectly exemplifies the philosophy of Pierre-Yves Colin-Morey, whose wines are sought after worldwide for their precision and faithful expression of the terroirs. Situated in the immediate vicinity of the village of Chassagne-Montrachet, the La Maltroie vineyard is set on clay-limestone soils that are particularly well-suited to Chardonnay. Low yields, hand-harvesting and a minimal-intervention winemaking process help to preserve all the natural richness of the grapes. Ageing, carried out mainly in demi-muids with a small proportion of new oak, brings complexity and depth without masking the terroir’s minerality.
The brilliant pale gold colour heralds a wine of great elegance. The nose reveals aromas of candied lemon, Williams pear, white peach, ripe apple and white flowers. With aeration, notes of hazelnut, fresh almond, delicate butter, flint and chalk emerge. On the palate, the attack is full-bodied and silky. The concentrated and refined texture is perfectly supported by precise acidity, which brings energy and tension. The flavours of white fruit and citrus linger into a salty, mineral finish of remarkable length.
Served at between 12 and 13 °C, this Premier Cru is the ideal accompaniment to lobster, langoustines, scallops, fine fish in sauce, Bresse poultry in cream sauce, morel risottos or mature cheeses. With an ageing potential of ten to fifteen years, it will develop notes of honey, brioche, dried fruit and white truffle.
