Pierre-Yves Colin-Morey’s Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru 2023 is a magnificent Burgundy white wine made exclusively from Chardonnay. Hailing from the legendary Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru, it reveals a highly complex bouquet interweaving notes of candied lemon, white peach, pear, white flowers, fresh hazelnut and flint. On the palate, power, precision and freshness are perfectly balanced around a remarkable minerality. The long, briny and elegant finish makes this Grand Cru the ideal companion for lobster, langoustines, fine fish and the finest gourmet dining experiences.
Description
The Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru 2023 ranks amongst the most prestigious wines produced by Pierre-Yves Colin-Morey, a winemaker unanimously recognised for his meticulous approach to Chardonnay. The grapes come from several plots situated on the famous Corton hill, between Aloxe-Corton and Pernand-Vergelesses, where the very poor limestone soils lend the wines exceptional depth and tension. The grapes are harvested at perfect ripeness, followed by slow pressing, natural fermentation and extended ageing in barrels, with a measured use of new oak to preserve the terroir’s identity.
The luminous pale gold colour heralds a wine of great distinction. The nose reveals aromas of lemon, grapefruit, white peach, ripe pear and white flowers. With aeration, notes of brioche, toasted hazelnut, beeswax, flint and damp stone emerge. On the palate, it impresses with its fullness, silky texture and tremendous energy. The Chardonnay’s natural richness is perfectly supported by precise acidity, which brings balance and freshness. The finish is long, briny, intensely mineral and remarkably persistent.
Served at between 12 and 13 °C, this Grand Cru is the ideal accompaniment to lobster, langoustines, scallops, fine fish in sauce, truffle-flavoured poultry or mature cheeses. It has ageing potential well in excess of fifteen to twenty years, during which time it will develop notes of honey, dried fruit, white truffle and brown butter.
