Its ruby colour is accompanied by a nose dominated by red fruits, notably cherries and wild berries. Description
The 2023 Chassagne-Montrachet Rouge Village from Domaine Caroline Morey is a fine example of Burgundian expertise and the richness of the Côte de Beaune terroirs. Whilst the Chassagne-Montrachet appellation is particularly renowned for its great white wines, it also produces Pinot Noir reds that deserve the full attention of wine lovers. With this Village cuvée, Caroline Morey offers a wine full of character, sourced from several plots whose soils feature a variety of limestone, marl and sand.
Established in 2014, Domaine Caroline Morey cultivates around seven hectares of vineyards spread across Chassagne-Montrachet, Santenay and Beaune. As the heir to a family winemaking tradition, Caroline Morey has developed an approach that focuses on meticulous vineyard management and the expression of the terroirs. For her red wines, she favours vinification in vats, with minimal intervention, particularly during punching down and pumping over. The wines are unfiltered to best preserve their natural expression.
On tasting, this 2023 Chassagne-Montrachet Rouge reveals an intense ruby colour, sometimes with purplish hues in its youth. The nose reveals a fruity palette dominated by red cherry, cherry stone and wild berries. With time, spicy and more complex nuances may enrich its bouquet. On the palate, it is full-bodied and well-structured, with assertive tannins that lend it a fine personality. Its balance between body and fruity expression makes it a particularly interesting wine to enjoy now or to keep in the cellar.
At the table, this Burgundy red wine will pair perfectly with a grilled rib of beef, beef bourguignon, roast poultry or a slow-cooked meat dish. It will also complement dishes featuring mushrooms or gourmet fare that showcases the finesse of Pinot Noir.
Served at around 15 to 16 °C, this 2023 Chassagne-Montrachet Village Rouge is a fine choice for Burgundy enthusiasts seeking a wine that combines depth, fruit and an expression of the terroir.
