Sylvain Morey’s Chassagne-Montrachet Rouge Village 2024 is a great Burgundy red wine made exclusively from Pinot Noir. Made from old vines planted on clay-limestone terroirs, it reveals a refined bouquet of cherry, raspberry, redcurrant, violet and delicate spices. On the palate, it captivates with its silky texture, fine tannins and perfectly balanced freshness. Elegant and rich, this Chassagne-Montrachet is the ideal accompaniment to roast poultry, veal, duck, grilled meats and mature Burgundian cheeses.
Description
The Chassagne-Montrachet Rouge Village 2024 perfectly illustrates the history of the appellation, where Pinot Noir once accounted for the vast majority of production. Sylvain Morey blends three iconic plots: La Bressonne, whose vines, aged nearly 70 years, bring structure and depth; Les Lombardes, with its very clay-rich soils that offer finesse and concentration; and Les Chimbres, which bring freshness and tension. The grapes are harvested by hand, vinified using spontaneous fermentation and gentle extraction to preserve the variety’s full elegance. The wine is then aged for 18 months on fine lees in demi-muids before being bottled without fining or filtration, ensuring an authentic expression of the terroir.
The brilliant ruby colour heralds a wine of great purity. The nose reveals aromas of morello cherry, wild raspberry, wild strawberry and blackcurrant, complemented by notes of violet, black pepper, liquorice and a subtle smoky hint. On the palate, the attack is supple and sumptuous. The velvety texture is underpinned by fine, perfectly integrated tannins, whilst a lovely freshness carries the red fruit flavours through to an elegant, lingering and delicately spicy finish.
Served at between 15 and 16 °C, this Chassagne-Montrachet Rouge is the perfect accompaniment to chicken breast, veal fillet, duck breast, mushroom risotto, beef fillet or a mature Époisses. With an ageing potential of eight to twelve years, it will develop notes of forest floor, fine leather and sweet spices.
