The 2022 Chambolle-Musigny from Maison Joseph Drouhin is a great Burgundian red wine made from 100 per cent Pinot Noir. Hailing from one of the most renowned appellations of the Côte de Nuits, it captivates with its finesse, freshness and velvety texture. The 2022 vintage reveals aromas of blackberry, blueberry, blackcurrant, peony and violet. On the palate, the tannins are silky and elegant, underpinned by a lovely freshness. A refined Burgundy, ideal with roast poultry, veal fillet or mature cheeses.
Description
Chambolle-Musigny ranks amongst the iconic appellations of the Côte de Nuits, and Joseph Drouhin offers a particularly elegant interpretation of it. Situated between Morey-Saint-Denis and Vougeot, the vineyard rests on a complex limestone subsoil that is particularly well-suited to Pinot Noir. The House of Drouhin owns several plots within this mosaic of terroirs, enabling it to express the appellation’s characteristic finesse.
The 2022 Chambolle-Musigny is a red wine made exclusively from Pinot Noir. The vintage boasts a vivid, deep colour. On the nose, the rich bouquet combines black fruits – blackberry, blueberry and blackcurrant – with elegant floral notes of peony and violet. On the palate, spicy notes accompany particularly silky tannins. The wine offers lovely fullness whilst retaining remarkable freshness, with a harmonious balance between body, structure and aromatic expression.
Joseph Drouhin’s winemaking favours an approach that respects the terroir. The grapes are harvested by hand into perforated crates and are carefully sorted where necessary. After complete destemming, fermentation and maceration take place over two to three weeks in small open vats, with punching down and pumping over. Indigenous yeasts are used. The wine is then aged for 14 to 16 months in oak barrels, with 20 to 25 per cent new oak.
At the table, this 2022 Chambolle-Musigny will elegantly accompany roast poultry, veal fillet, duck breast, slow-cooked meats or mature cheeses. It can be enjoyed now after being given time to breathe, whilst offering ageing potential estimated by the estate at 8 to 13 years for optimal enjoyment, with the potential to age for up to 15 years.
