Under the leadership of the Duboscq family, the domain of Château Haut Marbuzet now covers 76 hectares. Unlike its prestigious neighbors, the Duboscq Family's pricing policy has always been reasonable and the price / pleasure ratio of this Saint Estèphe is truly impressive. The classification of Haut-Marbuzet as a Cru Bourgeois Exceptionnel in 2003 is an illustration of this. In the 1970s Haut Marbuzet was among the first to use 100% new barrels, emphasizing the importance of choosing the origin of the wood. We had the opportunity to taste a vintage of Haut Marbuzet aged simultaneously in 3 different types of wood; a Hungarian oak, an American oak and a French oak from the center. The glaring difference and demonstrates the major role of the origin of the wood in the final result.

The dismantling of Mac Carthy in the 19th century is at the origin of the creation over time of Haut Marbuzet. Mc Carthy is indeed the name of a château, but the Mc Carthy brand is now used by the Duboscq family for its wines made from young vines. It is presented as the Second wine of Haut Marbuzet whereas this château is more to be considered as a wine in its own right in the style of Haut Marbuzet but to drink at a younger age.

Mac Carthy is therefore not the second wine of Château haut Marbuzet!
