Rhône Valley Wines

Rhône Valley wines

The Rhône Valley vineyard is one of the most important in France in terms of both diversity and extent (6 departments) and quality. It covers 1317 municipalities, covers 6 departments and extends from the city of Vienne in the north to the city of Arles in the south. The Rhône Valley is divided into two parts. The northern Rhône valley in the north runs from Vienne in the north to Valence in the south (Côte-Rôtie, Condrieu, Saint-Joseph and Crozes-Hermlitage ...) and the southern Rhône valley which stretches from Montélimar in the north to Avignon in the South or even Arles with the Costières de Nîmes (Châteauneuf du Pape, Gigondas, Vacqueyras, Beaumes de Venise, Rasteau, Tavel ...).

The king of the northern Rhône valley is Syrah for the reds which gives fine and powerful wines. The whites will be made from Marsanne, Roussanne and Viognier. The southern Rhône valley offers more heady wines, a larger number of grape varieties are used because the soils are very varied. The major red grape varieties are Grenache Noir, Syrah and Mourvèdre then for the whites, the major grape varieties are Viognier, Marsanne, Clairette, Bourboulenc and Grenache Blanc.
