Japan Whiskey

Japanese whisky, a love story between Japan and Scotland

You wonder why the Japanese make whiskey?

The answer is simple, at the beginning of the 20th century Mr Masataka Taketsuru was sent on a study trip to Scotland by Mr Shinjiro Torii, then patron of the Suntory house. His employer, producer of sake and sake wine was concerned about the decline in sake consumption in Japan and was looking for another segment to develop. Mr. Masataka Taketsuru met Miss Rita Cowan in Scotland and quickly fell in love with her, and he brought her back to the country to get married. He also brought back the idea of a whiskey produced in Japan in his distillery...

Japan is now considered a major whiskey bottle producer in the world (Blended and Single Malt)

Both in quantity and quality!!! they have nothing to envy to the blend or single malt Scotch whisky.

So you may be wondering, which Good Japanese Whiskey to buy?

Currently two groups share almost the entire whiskey market in Japan. Suntory which owns Yamazaki and Hakushu and Nikka Group owns Yioichi and Miyagikyo. These distilleries are far from being worthy of Scottish distilleries, since in many world competitions, Japanese whiskeys claim the best place. This can be explained by the fact that the Japanese benefit from a beautiful land to produce whisky, pure water, an ideal climate, peat bogs on the island of Hokkaido contribute to making great Single malts. Grain whiskeys from corn, high percentage of malt in Blended explain the enormous progress of the latter for 20 years.

So if you are a novice, you will wonder, which Japanese whiskey to start my initiation?

Here are some examples of what we offer on our site or in the cellar, Nikka from the Barrel, Nikka Coffey Malt, Nikka Coffey Grain, Nikka pure malt Taketsuru, Nikka Tailored, Yoichi single malt, Hibiki Japanese harmony, Yamazaki 12 (when the one this is available) and Yamazaki distiller's reserve, Miyagikyo single malt, Hakushu 12 (if available, at the discretion of the distillery!!) and Hakushu distiller's reserve, Togouchi, Akashi Meisei, Tokinoka white oak a beautiful blended whiskey, Fuji in bottle and in boxes, Matsui, Kurayoshi, Tottori, Hatozaki, Okayama, Chita, Toki. All these spirits have aged in different barrels (Bourbon, sherry) including the most prestigious, Mizunara oak barrels, an oak from Japan, which does not grow straight and therefore is not easy to work with for a cooper; this particular Mizunara oak offers notes of incense, sandalwood and coconut.

You will find these whiskeys in stock in store or on delivery on the Japanese whiskeys website in gift boxes with or without glasses, bottles in a beautiful case at a low price.

Even more surprising!!!

Did you know that Japan is also a country producing rum but also gin?
