Saint Julien Médoc Bordeaux Wine

Saint-Julien wines are from one of the Médoc appellations, which is itself a Bordeaux wine appellation.

This appellation ranks among the most prestigious Bordeaux wines, but also allows for the discovery of little gems at very reasonable prices, as it covers almost 900 hectares.

Characteristics of Saint-Julien Wines

Saint-Julien wines generally offer notes of black fruits, blackcurrant, cedar, and sometimes truffle on the nose. On the palate, they are full-bodied, balanced, and have a beautiful length. Their texture is silky and fine.

Which Grape Varieties are Used in Saint-Julien?

Saint-Julien, like the Médoc region in general, is associated with Cabernet Sauvignon, which often represents the majority of blends. This grape variety, the king of the Médoc region, brings aromas of black fruits, blackcurrant, and cedar, as well as a robust tannic structure. Merlot is the complementary grape variety, bringing smoothness and notes of red fruits. Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot sometimes complete the blend, although this varies depending on the châteaux and especially the vintage.
