Domaine de L'A 2022: the excellence of Castillon Côtes de Bordeaux

Domaine de L’A is now one of the leading names in Castillon Côtes de Bordeaux. Situated on the limestone plateaus and slopes near Saint-Émilion, the vineyard benefits from an exceptional terroir that favours the production of wines that are powerful, elegant and wonderfully fresh. The 2022 vintage is a blend of 75% Merlot and 25% Cabernet Franc, a balance that combines the rich, luscious character of Merlot with the freshness and structure of Cabernet Franc. The grapes are harvested exclusively by hand, followed by a long vatting period of around thirty days. Malolactic fermentation takes place in barriques, after which the wine is aged for 16 to 18 months, with a proportion of new oak barrels adding complexity without masking the fruit.

The colour is deep, an intense garnet with purplish highlights. The nose reveals aromas of blackcurrant, blackberry, black cherry, plum, violet, graphite, liquorice, cocoa and subtle spices. On the palate, the attack is full-bodied and precise. The tannins are silky and perfectly integrated, underpinned by a lovely mineral freshness that extends a long, elegant and lingering finish.

Served between 16 and 18 °C, this Castillon Côtes de Bordeaux is the ideal accompaniment to a rib of beef, a fillet of beef, a rack of lamb, roast pigeon, game, porcini mushrooms or mature cheeses. It has ageing potential well in excess of fifteen years.
