BARBERINI Domaine de la Solitude Châteauneuf-du-Pape Red 2024: an exceptional wine from the Rhône Valley

Domaine de la Solitude, a historic estate owned by the Lançon family, has been cultivating its vineyards in the heart of Châteauneuf-du-Pape for several centuries. Certified organic, the estate showcases the full diversity of its terroirs through meticulous and environmentally responsible viticulture. The BARBERINI cuvée is one of the estate’s most prestigious wines. It is crafted from a plot-selection of old vines of Grenache Noir, Syrah and Mourvèdre, planted on the high alluvial terraces of La Crau, where the rounded pebbles promote perfect ripeness of the grapes. The wine is then aged for 18 months, predominantly in barrels, which refines the tannins whilst preserving the fruit’s character.

Its deep garnet colour hints at great concentration. The nose is intense and complex, blending aromas of black cherry, blackberry, blackcurrant, violet, liquorice, cocoa, garrigue, black pepper and subtle toasty notes. On the palate, the attack is full-bodied and silky. The Grenache brings richness and body, the Syrah reveals freshness and elegance, whilst the Mourvèdre offers a lovely tannic structure and remarkable length. The finish is lingering, marked by notes of spice, truffle, dark chocolate and jammy black fruits.

Served between 16 and 18 °C, this great Châteauneuf-du-Pape will pair perfectly with a matured rib of beef, a leg of lamb with herbs, a game stew, a fillet of venison, a roast pigeon or mature cheeses. It has ageing potential well in excess of fifteen to twenty years.
