With Haute Pierre 2022, Maison Delas offers a fine expression of red Châteauneuf-du-Pape. The blend of 65 per cent Grenache, 23 per cent Mourvèdre and 12 per cent Syrah brings richness, depth and structure. The full-bodied palate combines black and red fruits with spices, pepper and liquorice, whilst the tannins provide excellent structure. Vinification in concrete vats and ageing in vats and oak barrels preserve the balance between power and finesse. An ideal wine to pair with red meats and slow-cooked dishes.
Description
The Haute Pierre cuvée offers a generous and well-structured interpretation of red Châteauneuf-du-Pape. Produced by Maison Delas, this Rhône Valley wine benefits from a Mediterranean terroir that is particularly conducive to the ripening of the grapes. Quartz pebbles and red clay store the sun’s heat before releasing it during the night, whilst the mistral helps to preserve the vineyard’s freshness and health.
The 2022 vintage was characterised by a very hot and dry year, with an early harvest and concentrated berries. For Haute Pierre, the blend combines Grenache, Mourvèdre and Syrah in proportions of 65 per cent, 23 per cent and 12 per cent. This composition gives the wine a particularly well-rounded character, combining rich fruit, depth, spice and tannic structure.
Vinification in concrete vats enables Maison Delas to achieve a gentle and controlled extraction. The wine is then aged partly in large concrete vats and partly in oak barrels. The aim is to preserve the identity of the fruit and the terroir whilst adding greater complexity, length and texture.
In the glass, Haute Pierre 2022 reveals a deep garnet colour. Its bouquet evokes ripe red and black fruits, spices, pepper and more complex nuances of earth and precious wood. The palate is full-bodied and generous, with a dense yet balanced texture. The tannins, powerful yet well-integrated, provide structure to the tasting experience, whilst the finish lingers with notes of liquorice, spices and ripe fruit.
This great Rhône red wine will be at its best with hearty dishes: roast lamb, rib of beef, beef stew, game, grilled meats or Provençal slow-cooked dishes. It should be served at around 16–18 °C and decanted about an hour before drinking whilst it is still young.
