Descendientes de J. Palacios Pétalos 2021: an essential benchmark for the Bierzo

The Pétalos 2021 is made from grapes grown on plots situated around Corullón, Villafranca del Bierzo and neighbouring villages. The vines, aged between 50 and 110 years, are grown on soils of schist, iron-rich clay and quartz, which lend the wine superb minerality. Fermentation takes place using indigenous yeasts in open stainless-steel vats and wooden vats, followed by nine months’ ageing in French oak barrels and casks, to preserve the fruit’s purity and the expression of the terroir.

The colour is a beautiful deep cherry red with purplish highlights. The nose reveals aromas of raspberry, blackberry, blueberry, black cherry, violet, thyme, black pepper and a subtle mineral note. On the palate, the attack is fresh and juicy. The tannins are fine, silky and perfectly integrated. The texture is velvety, underpinned by a lovely structure that leads to a long, elegant and delicately spicy finish.

Served between 15 and 17 °C, this Bierzo is the perfect accompaniment to grilled meats, duck breast, beef fillet, roast lamb, mushrooms, Iberian cured meats or mature cheeses.
