On the island of Islay, the Ardbeg distillery is renowned for its powerfully peated single malts, whose smokiness evokes peat fires, sea spray and the Scottish seascape. With Ardcore, the distillery offers a particularly bold interpretation of its style. This limited edition, unveiled to mark Ardbeg Day 2022, draws inspiration from the rebellious spirit of the punk movement and features an ingredient that is unusual in the distillery’s history: heavily roasted black malt.

This intense roasting process gives the whisky a toasty dimension that complements its peaty smokiness. The nose is rich and distinctive, with aromas of burnt bread, chicory coffee, aromatic herbs and campfire smoke. Hints of molasses add a sweeter touch. On the palate, the attack is lively and spicy. Cocoa powder, dark chocolate and peanut caramel mingle with aniseed, malted biscuits and smoky lime. Hints of charcoal and embers reinforce the intense character of the tasting experience.

The long, lingering finish reveals notes of brown caramel, smoke and soot. This interplay between toasted bitterness, malty sweetness and peat is what makes this expression so unique.

Ardcore is bottled at 46% ABV and is non-chill-filtered. It is best enjoyed neat, at room temperature, in a suitable glass. A few drops of water may help to bring out its aromas.
