HEARTLAND red wine from AUSTRALIA Cabernet Sauvignon 75 cl

HEARTLAND red wine from AUSTRALIA Cabernet Sauvignon 75 cl

Heartland Cabernet Sauvignon: An Australian Red Wine from Langhorne Creek

Heartland Cabernet Sauvignon is a red wine produced in Langhorne Creek, South Australia, under the direction of winemaker Ben Glaetzer. The wine highlights the character of Cabernet Sauvignon grown in a region known for its combination of ripe fruit, natural freshness and well-structured tannins.

The vineyards are planted on sandy loam soils, in an area influenced by cooling breezes from nearby Lake Alexandrina. These conditions help moderate summer temperatures and preserve acidity during grape ripening.

Winemaking begins with approximately three days of cold maceration before fermentation in open fermenters. The wine then undergoes malolactic fermentation in oak, followed by twelve months of maturation in French and American oak barrels.

The aromatic profile features blackcurrant, ripe plum and dark berries, accompanied by subtle herbal and spicy notes. On the palate, generous fruit flavours are balanced by structured tannins and a persistent finish.

Heartland Cabernet Sauvignon pairs well with grilled beef, roasted lamb, duck and slow-cooked meat dishes. Serving it at approximately 16–18°C allows its fruit and spice aromas to develop.

This 75 cl bottle offers an expression of Australian Cabernet Sauvignon shaped by the distinctive climate of Langhorne Creek and the winemaking experience of Ben Glaetzer.

Description

Heartland Wines Cabernet Sauvignon: Ben Glaetzer's Expression of South Australian Terroir

Heartland Cabernet Sauvignon is produced in Langhorne Creek, one of South Australia's historic wine-growing regions. The area lies southeast of Adelaide, close to Lake Alexandrina, and is particularly well known for Cabernet Sauvignon and Shiraz.

Heartland Wines is associated with winemaker Ben Glaetzer, whose experience with Australian red grape varieties has shaped the estate's style. His approach focuses on combining ripe fruit concentration with balanced tannins and natural freshness.

Langhorne Creek benefits from a distinctive geographical setting. Its vineyards are situated on relatively flat land near the Bremer and Angas rivers, with sandy loam soils supporting vine growth. Cooling breezes from Lake Alexandrina help moderate temperatures during the growing season, allowing grapes to ripen while maintaining acidity.

Cabernet Sauvignon is particularly well suited to these conditions. The variety develops concentrated black-fruit aromas and a tannic structure that can support maturation in oak and further development in bottle.

The production process for Heartland Cabernet Sauvignon includes a cold pre-fermentation maceration lasting approximately three days. Fermentation takes place in open fermenters at controlled temperatures, generally at or below 23°C. This method encourages colour and tannin extraction while preserving the aromatic character of the grapes.

The wine then undergoes malolactic fermentation in oak before being matured for approximately twelve months in a combination of French and American oak barrels. This ageing period helps integrate the tannins and contributes subtle woody and spicy nuances.

The tasting profile varies with the vintage, but blackcurrant, plum and dark berries are recurring characteristics. Some vintages also display violet, clove, aniseed, bay leaf or coffee notes. These secondary aromas complement the fruit rather than dominating it.

On the palate, Heartland Cabernet Sauvignon offers a generous texture, structured tannins and a persistent finish. The natural acidity associated with Langhorne Creek provides balance and freshness.

This wine pairs particularly well with roasted lamb, grilled beef, duck breast and slow-cooked meat dishes. Mature cheeses can also complement its structure.

Serving at approximately 16–18°C allows the fruit, spice and oak aromas to develop. Depending on the vintage and storage conditions, the wine may also benefit from several years of bottle ageing.

Heartland Cabernet Sauvignon offers an example of the Australian interpretation of this classic grape variety, combining generous dark-fruit flavours with the influence of Langhorne Creek's cooler growing conditions.
