JNPR BTTR N°1: a botanical, citrus-led alcohol-free aperitif

JNPR BTTR N°1 is an alcohol-free aperitif created for cocktail making. It aims to reproduce the bitterness and aromatic depth associated with traditional bitters, while containing no alcohol. Made in Italy, it combines botanical infusions, citrus fruits and spices to create a structured base for alcohol-free drinks.

The recipe includes gentian and cinchona bark, bitter and sweet orange, rhubarb, liquorice and cinnamon. Lime juice and elderflower add further aromatic dimensions, while safflower extract is also included. The result centres on a persistent bitter character, balanced by citrus freshness and herbal, spicy notes. Rather than being intended only for drinking neat, BTTR N°1 is designed to provide a key flavour component in alcohol-free cocktails.

It can be used to make non-alcoholic interpretations of Italian classics such as the Spritz, Americano and Negroni, combined with suitable alcohol-free alternatives for the other ingredients. For a simpler serve, JNPR suggests mixing 40 ml of BTTR N°1 with a teaspoon of lemon syrup and 100 ml of sparkling water. Serve over plenty of ice and garnish with a slice of orange.

The product comes in a 70 cl bottle and contains 0% alcohol. According to JNPR, one bottle can make around 20 cocktails. It contains sugar, with the manufacturer listing 30 g of sugars per 100 g, and is described as gluten-free. After opening, it should be refrigerated at 4–10°C and consumed within six months.

BTTR N°1 is suited to those who want a bitter, citrus-driven aperitif with botanical complexity, while choosing an alcohol-free option for their drinks.
