Dos Maderas PX 5+5 Rum Gift Set: a fusion of the Caribbean and Sherry

Dos Maderas PX 5+5 is a traditional molasses rum that stands out thanks to a unique production method combining two regions and two traditions. The rums selected by Williams & Humbert come from Barbados and Guyana. They begin their maturation in the tropical climate of the Caribbean before being transported to Jerez de la Frontera, in Andalusia, where they continue to age in casks that previously held sherry. This dual origin forms the very essence of Dos Maderas, whose name means ‘two woods’ in Spanish.

The PX 5+5 takes its name from its maturation process: five years of initial ageing in the Caribbean, followed by a further five years in Spain. For this second stage, the rum is finished in Palo Cortado casks and then in Pedro Ximénez casks. This finishing process imparts great aromatic richness and contributes to its rounded, oaky and fruity character.

The unique feature of this gift set, however, lies in the four mini-bottles that accompany the 70 cl bottle. They provide a better understanding of the components and stages involved in the creation of the Dos Maderas 5+5. These include a blend of rums from Barbados and Guyana prior to their ageing in Spain – the Dos Maderas 5+3 – as well as the two sherries associated with the finishing casks: Dos Cortados Palo Cortado and Don Guido Pedro Ximénez.

On tasting, the Dos Maderas PX 5+5 captivates with its generous profile. The nose evokes fresh fruit, grapes and candied fruit, with woody and slightly toby nuances. On the palate, it is smooth and well-balanced, with notes of nuts, candied fruit and tobacco. The finish lingers with hints of wood, fruit and vanilla.
