Château Bonnange 2020 is a red wine from the Blaye – Côtes de Bordeaux appellation, made from Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon. This vintage captivates with its balance of rich fruit, freshness and silky tannins. The Merlot brings roundness and a rich, indulgent character, whilst the Cabernet Sauvignon contributes to the wine’s structure and depth. On the nose, it reveals notes of black fruits, plum and blackberry, accompanied by spicy and slightly oaky nuances. On the palate, its generous texture and well-integrated tannins offer a lingering finish. A Bordeaux with character, best served with red meats, grilled dishes or mature cheeses.
Description
Château Bonnange 2020 is a fine example of the red wines of the Blaye region, on the right bank of the Gironde. The estate works its terroirs with a view to preserving the natural expression of the grape varieties and individual plots. This cuvée blends Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon, two complementary varieties that give the wine its balance and personality.
Merlot provides a particularly interesting foundation, bringing body, suppleness and a generous expression of fruit. Cabernet Sauvignon complements the blend with its structure, freshness and ability to add depth to the wine. The result is a red Bordeaux that is both rich and structured, perfectly embodying the spirit of the Blaye – Côtes de Bordeaux region.
In the glass, the Château Bonnange 2020 displays an aromatic profile dominated by black fruits and ripe fruit. Hints of plum, blackberry and black cherry may be accompanied by peppery, vanilla and slightly oaky notes. On the palate, the wine is full-bodied and generous, underpinned by firm tannins and lovely freshness. The 2020 vintage thus displays fine concentration whilst maintaining a pleasant balance. Wine Enthusiast awarded it 91/100, highlighting in particular its richness, firm tannins, smoky character, black fruit and acidity.
At the table, this Bordeaux red wine will be at its best with a grilled entrecôte, duck breast, roast beef, veal chop or a slow-cooked dish. It will also pair well with mature cheeses. Serve it at around 16 to 18 °C, ideally after a short period of aeration to allow the aromas to develop.
