Château Haut Greyzeau is a red wine from the Côtes de Bordeaux appellation, produced by Vignoble Pestoury in Yvrac. Its Bordeaux blend combines Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and a touch of Malbec. Produced from a vineyard currently in the process of converting to certified organic farming (FR-BIO-16), this wine charms with its fruitiness, structure and generous character. Ageing in French oak barrels lends it a well-integrated woody note. A characterful Bordeaux to enjoy with red meats, grilled dishes, game or mature cheeses.
Description
Château Haut Greyzeau is produced by Vignoble Pestoury, based in Yvrac, in the Gironde. This family-run estate cultivates a terroir situated within the Côtes de Bordeaux appellation, characterised in particular by a clay-limestone plateau and hillsides composed of fine gravel. The vineyard has a planting density of 5,500 vines per hectare, and the vines used for Château Haut Greyzeau have an average age of 65 years. These characteristics contribute to the ripeness and concentration of the grapes whilst retaining a certain freshness.
The blend is one of the most interesting aspects of this cuvée. Merlot accounts for 60 per cent of the blend, contributing roundness, fruit and richness. Cabernet Sauvignon, at 25 per cent, reinforces the structure and adds greater depth. Cabernet Franc, at 10 per cent, contributes to the aromatic finesse, whilst Malbec rounds off the blend at 5 per cent with its fruity and spicy character. This combination results in a balanced red Bordeaux, which is both approachable and sufficiently structured to pair well with food.
Vineyard management follows a consistent environmental approach. The estate holds HVE 3 and Terra Vitis certification, whilst the Château Haut Greyzeau cuvée is currently marketed as a wine in conversion to organic farming, with FR-BIO-16 certification. This distinction is important to differentiate the conversion process from a fully established organic certification.
Following vinification, Château Haut Greyzeau is aged for between six months and one year in second- and third-use French oak barrels. This ageing process adds complexity and a subtle oaky dimension without overpowering the fruit. On the palate, the wine displays a classic Bordeaux red profile, combining red and black fruits, tannic structure and spicy notes. It offers a fine balance between acidity and tannins.
At the table, this Côtes de Bordeaux is the perfect accompaniment to a grilled entrecôte, a rib of beef, meat in a sauce or a slow-cooked dish. Its character also lends itself well to game and mature cheeses. It should be served at around 16 to 18 °C to preserve its balance between fruit, freshness and structure.
