GLEN SCOTIA Double Cask 70 cl Campbeltown Single Malt Scotch Whisky

GLEN SCOTIA Double Cask 70 cl Campbeltown Single Malt Scotch Whisky

Glen Scotia Double Cask: A Rich and Spicy Campbeltown Single Malt

Glen Scotia Double Cask is a single malt Scotch whisky produced in Campbeltown, on Scotland's Kintyre peninsula. Founded in 1832, Glen Scotia is one of the historic distilleries of this renowned whisky-producing region.

This expression undergoes two complementary stages of maturation. It is initially aged in first-fill bourbon barrels before receiving a 12-month finish in Pedro Ximénez sherry casks. The bourbon wood contributes vanilla and caramel characteristics, while the PX casks bring additional fruit richness and spice.

The nose offers crème caramel, toffee, apple and peach, accompanied by a delicate maritime sea-spray character. On the palate, rich spicy fruit flavours combine with buttery caramel and fudge. The finish develops vanilla oak and gentle warming spices.

Bottled at 46% ABV without chill filtration, Glen Scotia Double Cask retains a rich mouthfeel. It is a no-age-statement whisky, with the emphasis placed on the relationship between its two cask maturations rather than a specific age.

Enjoy this Campbeltown single malt neat to appreciate its balance of sweetness, fruit and coastal freshness. Adding a little water may reveal further aromatic detail.

Presented in a 700 ml bottle, Glen Scotia Double Cask is a distinctive introduction to the distillery's maritime and sherry-influenced style.

Description

Glen Scotia Double Cask Single Malt: Bourbon Sweetness Meets Pedro Ximénez Sherry

Glen Scotia Double Cask is a single malt Scotch whisky produced in Campbeltown, one of Scotland's officially recognised whisky regions. Located on the Kintyre peninsula, Campbeltown was once a major centre of whisky production. Glen Scotia, established in 1832, remains an important part of the town's distilling heritage.

The defining feature of this expression is its two-stage maturation process. The whisky is initially matured in first-fill bourbon barrels, which contribute vanilla, caramel and sweet oak characteristics. It then undergoes a 12-month finishing period in Pedro Ximénez sherry casks. PX sherry is a rich, sweet Spanish wine, and casks previously used for its maturation can bring additional fruit and spice complexity to whisky.

This combination creates a balance between sweetness, ripe fruit and the distinctive coastal character associated with Glen Scotia. The official tasting notes describe a nose of crème caramel, toffee, apple and peach, with a maritime sea-spray nuance. The palate is rich and generous, combining spicy fruit flavours with buttery caramel and fudge. The finish develops vanilla oak and gentle spices.

Glen Scotia Double Cask is bottled at 46% ABV and is not chill filtered. Chill filtration is sometimes used to remove compounds that may cause whisky to become cloudy at lower temperatures. By avoiding this process, the distillery retains these naturally occurring components in the finished spirit.

The whisky carries no age statement, although its Pedro Ximénez finishing period is specified as 12 months. Its identity therefore rests primarily on cask selection and the resulting flavour profile.

For tasting, serve it neat in a tulip-shaped glass to appreciate the progression from caramel and fresh fruit to spice and oak. A few drops of water may help reveal different aromatic nuances. Its combination of sweet, fruity and maritime characteristics makes it a useful reference for exploring the Campbeltown style.

Presented in a 700 ml bottle, Glen Scotia Double Cask demonstrates how two types of cask can shape a single malt while preserving the underlying character of its distillery.
