The Aberlour distillery, founded in 1879 in the village of the same name, is a leading name in Speyside, a region of Scotland renowned for its elegant and full-bodied single malt whiskies. With A’Bunadh Alba, the distillery presents a whisky that highlights the character of the spirit and the influence of American oak. The name A’Bunadh means ‘the origin’ in Scottish Gaelic. The term Alba refers specifically to Quercus alba, the American white oak used to make the casks.

What sets this whisky apart is its maturation: it is matured exclusively in first-fill bourbon casks, which impart aromas of vanilla, honey and ripe fruit to the spirit. This approach differs from that of the classic A’Bunadh, which is more strongly influenced by sherry casks. A’Bunadh Alba thus offers a brighter, fruitier and creamier expression.

On tasting, it displays a pale golden colour. The nose evokes ripe apples and pears, honey, vanilla and a hint of cinnamon. On the palate, the creamy texture is accompanied by notes of citrus, baked apples and buttery biscuits, with a hint of almond. The finish prolongs this indulgent character with nuances of toasted almonds and oak.

Bottled straight from the cask, without dilution with water, this single malt retains the natural alcohol content specific to its production batch. Its intensity means it can be enjoyed neat, in a tulip glass, or with a few drops of water to soften the alcohol content and reveal new nuances.
