Produced at Hacienda Santa Teresa in the state of Aragua, the rum reflects a heritage dating back to 1796.

The Santa Teresa 1796 expression was introduced in 1996 to celebrate the estate's 200th anniversary.

The Vollmer family and the distillery's master blenders developed a distinctive ageing process designed to create a smooth, complex and balanced rum.

Made from Sugar Cane Molasses

Santa Teresa 1796 is a traditional molasses-based rum.

Its composition brings together three categories of distillates: light rum, heavier rum and pot-still rum.

These components contribute different aromatic characteristics.

Light rum provides oak, vanilla and spice notes, while heavier distillates offer ripe fruit and honey.

Pot-still rum adds depth through notes reminiscent of dark chocolate, tobacco and leather.

A Unique Triple-Ageing Process

The first stage involves ageing the different rums separately for periods ranging from 4 to 35 years.

The distillates are then blended and introduced into a traditional Solera-inspired system.

This second stage uses four rows of oak casks, with rum progressively transferred between them.

The barrels are never completely emptied, preserving continuity between successive blends.

The final maturation takes place in large French Limousin oak vats.

These vats are also maintained using a perpetual ageing approach, helping create the rum's characteristic balance.

Importantly, the presence of older components does not mean that every rum in the blend has been aged for 35 years.

Appearance and Aroma

Santa Teresa 1796 displays a deep amber colour with copper-red reflections.

The nose is fruity, with aromas of mature fruit, vanilla, oak and delicate spices.

Additional nuances of honey and dried fruit contribute complexity.

A Smooth and Balanced Palate

The palate reveals flavours of walnuts, cinnamon, dark chocolate and prunes.

Honey provides gentle sweetness, while leather, oak and pepper introduce savoury and spicy dimensions.

The texture is smooth and rounded without becoming excessively sweet.
