Description

Bâtard-Montrachet Grand Cru 2023: Pierre-Yves Colin-Morey’s masterpiece

The Bâtard-Montrachet Grand Cru 2023 is one of the most prestigious wines from the Pierre-Yves Colin-Morey estate. Produced from a tiny plot of old vines, over 85 years old, situated in the Bâtard-Montrachet Grand Cru, this Chardonnay benefits from a unique terroir comprising perfectly well-drained clay-limestone soils. True to his philosophy, Pierre-Yves Colin-Morey seeks above all the precision of the fruit and the expression of the terroir. The grapes are harvested relatively early to preserve their natural freshness, whilst ageing in large oak vats enhances the wine’s tension and purity without masking its identity.

The brilliant pale gold colour is followed by a remarkably complex nose where Williams pear, white peach, quince, candied lemon, lime blossom, acacia honey and fresh hazelnut intertwine. With aeration, nuances of flint, delicate butter, crème fraîche and subtle spices emerge. On the palate, the wine impresses with its exceptional balance between richness, power and energy. The texture is dense, deep and satiny, underpinned by precise acidity that brings freshness and length. The finish—salty, mineral and infinitely lingering—confirms the greatness of this Grand Cru.

Served at between 12 and 13 °C, this Bâtard-Montrachet is the ideal accompaniment to lobster, langoustines, scallops, fine fish in sauce, truffled Bresse poultry or the finest gourmet dishes. Its ageing potential easily exceeds twenty years, during which time it will develop aromas of honey, white truffle, dried fruit and brioche. This Grand Cru is aimed at connoisseurs of the world’s finest Chardonnays and stands as an essential benchmark of the Côte de Beaune.
