With Zaya Gran Reserva, Trinidad and Tobago has produced a molasses rum that emphasises roundness and aromatic richness. This 70 cl bottle, with an alcohol content of 40°, is a blend of rums aged in oak casks that previously contained bourbon. The ‘16-year-old’ label refers to rums within the blend that may have reached this age; it does not necessarily mean that each component has been aged for 16 years.

Ageing in a tropical climate contributes to this rum’s character. Interaction with the wood develops nuances of vanilla, caramel and spices, whilst the blend seeks a balance between richness, smoothness and intensity.
