Domaine de La Solitude’s Châteauneuf-du-Pape 2022 is an iconic cuvée that showcases the full richness of the terroir of one of the Rhône Valley’s most prestigious appellations. Building on a family tradition of winemaking passed down through several generations, the estate crafts this wine from a traditional blend dominated by Grenache Noir, complemented mainly by Syrah, Mourvèdre and Cinsault. Each grape variety contributes an essential dimension to the wine’s balance: Grenache offers power, roundness and intense fruitiness; Syrah develops notes of pepper, violet and black fruits; whilst Mourvèdre brings structure, depth and ageing potential. Cinsault rounds the blend off with its finesse and freshness.
The colour is deep, an intense garnet red. The nose reveals lovely complexity, blending blackcurrant, blackberry, black cherry, liquorice, thyme, rosemary, garrigue, cocoa and black pepper. On the palate, the attack is full-bodied and velvety, supported by generous body, silky tannins and perfectly balanced freshness. The long, elegant finish reveals notes of spice, ripe fruit and warm stone.
This great red wine is the ideal accompaniment to a rack of lamb, a game stew, a Provençal daube, duck breast or mature cheeses. It can be enjoyed now after a little aeration, or laid down for around fifteen years to reveal its full complexity.
