Pierre-Yves Colin-Morey’s Monthélie 1er Cru La Riotte Rouge 2023 reveals all the finesse of Pinot Noir from an exceptional terroir in the Côte de Beaune. Its bouquet captivates with aromas of morello cherry, raspberry, redcurrant, violet and subtle spicy notes. On the palate, the balance between freshness, refined tannins and concentration offers a silky texture of great elegance. The long, mineral and delicately spicy finish makes this Premier Cru an ideal accompaniment to roast poultry, veal, duck or mature cheeses.
Description
The Monthélie 1er Cru La Riotte Rouge 2023 perfectly illustrates the philosophy of Pierre-Yves Colin-Morey, a winemaker renowned for producing wines of remarkable precision. Situated in the heart of the Côte de Beaune, the La Riotte vineyard benefits from clay-limestone soils perfectly suited to Pinot Noir. Low yields, hand-harvesting and a minimal-intervention winemaking process help to preserve the terroir’s full identity. Ageing in oak barrels, with a measured use of new oak, lends structure and complexity without overpowering the fruit’s expression.
The brilliant ruby colour heralds a wine of great purity. The nose reveals aromas of black cherry, wild raspberry, redcurrant and red plum, accompanied by notes of violet, peony, liquorice and black pepper. With aeration, nuances of cocoa, tobacco leaf, warm stone and forest floor emerge. On the palate, the attack is supple and elegant. The tannins are exceptionally refined, underpinned by a natural freshness that brings balance and length. The finish is lingering, refined and subtly mineral.
Served at between 15 and 16 °C, this Premier Cru is the perfect accompaniment to veal fillet, duck breast, Bresse poultry, a risotto with porcini mushrooms, beef fillet or mature Burgundy cheeses. With an ageing potential of ten to fifteen years, it will develop complex aromas of truffle, fine leather and macerated fruit.
