The Château Francs Magnus 2019 is a Bordeaux Supérieur produced under the guidance of Stéphane Derenoncourt, one of the leading figures in Bordeaux’s wine consultancy sector. Made from 95% Merlot and 5% Cabernet Franc, it expresses all the richness of its clay-limestone terroir through a sumptuous, elegant and approachable style. Aromas of blackcurrant, blackberry, black cherry, chocolate, liquorice and spices combine with a velvety, fresh and perfectly balanced palate.
Description
Château Francs Magnus is situated on clay-limestone soils, which are particularly well-suited to bringing out the best in Merlot. The grapes are harvested at peak ripeness and then vinified with precision to preserve the fruit’s purity. Stéphane Derenoncourt’s philosophy is based on gentle extraction, plot-by-plot vinification where possible, and carefully controlled ageing to preserve the terroir’s identity whilst adding complexity and elegance.
The colour is deep, a garnet red with purplish highlights. The nose reveals aromas of blackcurrant, blackberry, black cherry, plum, dark chocolate, liquorice, violet and subtle spices. On the palate, the attack is full-bodied and rich. The tannins are supple and silky, underpinned by a pleasant freshness that brings balance and length. The finish is lingering, fruity and delicately spiced.
Served between 16 and 18 °C, this Bordeaux Supérieur is the perfect accompaniment to a rib of beef, duck breast, leg of lamb, grilled meats, cassoulet, roast guinea fowl or mature cheeses.
