CHEVAL NOIR 2012 MAGNUM

Cheval Noir St Emilion Red Bordeaux Wine Magnum 2023

Cheval Noir Saint-Émilion Magnum: the elegance of a great Bordeaux in a 1.5-litre bottle

Cheval Noir Saint-Émilion Magnum is a fine red Bordeaux wine made primarily from 70 per cent Merlot and 30 per cent Cabernet Franc, a blend emblematic of Bordeaux’s right bank. The Merlot brings roundness, richness and a luscious flavour, whilst the Cabernet Franc offers finesse, freshness and elegance. The nose reveals aromas of blackcurrant, black cherry, blackberry and spices, complemented by delicate oaky notes. On the palate, it is full-bodied, silky and perfectly balanced. The Magnum size encourages the wine to develop more slowly and enhances its ageing potential.

Founded in 1895, Cheval Noir is one of Bordeaux’s oldest brands. Since 1937, it has been owned by Mähler-Besse, a distinguished family of Bordeaux wine merchants who continue to apply their expertise to the terroirs of Saint-Émilion.

Description

Cheval Noir Saint-Émilion Magnum 1.5 L: a great Bordeaux wine from an exceptional terroir

Cheval Noir Saint-Émilion is a benchmark amongst the great wines of Bordeaux. The brand was established in 1895, making it one of the oldest names in the Bordeaux wine region. In 1937, it joined the prestigious Mähler-Besse estate, founded in 1892, which built its reputation through a rigorous selection of the finest terroirs in Saint-Émilion. Since 2010, the winemaking process has been overseen by Hubert de Boüard, oenologist and co-owner of the famous Château Angélus, ensuring an elegant, precise style that remains true to the appellation’s identity.

This cuvée is made from a blend of 70 per cent Merlot and 30 per cent Cabernet Franc. The Merlot brings its full aromatic richness with notes of plum, black cherry and ripe fruit, whilst the Cabernet Franc lends freshness, structure and delicate floral and spicy notes. The colour is deep, an intense garnet. The nose reveals aromas of blackcurrant, blackberry, black cherry, liquorice, mocha and lightly toasted bread. After a few moments of aeration, nuances of cedar, blond tobacco and vanilla emerge.

On the palate, the attack is full-bodied and velvety. The tannins are perfectly integrated and support a generous texture dominated by black fruits, sweet spices and an elegant freshness. The finish is long, harmonious and lingering. Thanks to its Magnum size (1.5 L), this Saint-Émilion ages more slowly, allowing it to develop greater complexity over the years.

Served at between 17 and 18 °C, it is the perfect accompaniment to a rib of beef, a fillet of beef, a rack of lamb, duck breast, game or mature cheeses. With an ageing potential of 8 to 15 years, wine lovers will be able to appreciate its full evolution.
