French Agricole Rum
France is one of the most important countries on the rum planet, both in terms of variety and quality. It is enough to realize the diversity of origin of its rums. All of the DOM (Overseas Departments) and TOM (Overseas Territories) cover terroirs as varied as Guadeloupe and Marie Galante, Martinique and its AOC (Appellation d'Origine Contrôlée), Guyana in the Caribbean, Reunion Island and Thailand in the Indian Ocean and the Pacific Ocean. All together, France has about a hundred rum distilleries. The French rums produced are white rum, dark rum and old rum. France and its islands produce generally dry rums. France is at the forefront of the production of agricultural rums, these rums are produced exclusively from freshly squeezed cane juice. France rum in a few figures is around 55 million liters per year , of which 20% consumed locally, 30% exported worldwide and 50% consumed in metropolitan France.
