Description

Château Bouscassé Les Jardins Philosophiques 2019: Alain Brumont’s interpretation of the Petit Courbu

A visionary in the vineyards of south-western France, Alain Brumont is renowned for having revealed the exceptional potential of the Madiran and Pacherenc-du-Vic-Bilh terroirs. With Les Jardins Philosophiques, he showcases the Petit Courbu, a historic grape variety long overlooked, to which he adds a small proportion of Petit Manseng to bring greater aromatic complexity and structure. This cuvée is grown on clay-limestone soils and is aged for 10 to 12 months on fine lees, without oak, to preserve the purity of the fruit and the identity of the terroir.

The colour is luminous, a pale yellow with golden highlights. The nose reveals aromas of meadow flowers, exotic fruits, grapefruit, candied lemon and white peach, accompanied by delicate mineral notes. On the palate, the attack is lively and precise. The wine develops a full-bodied, silky texture in which flavours of citrus, white-fleshed fruits and flowers are perfectly balanced by a lovely freshness. The finish is long, briny and highly elegant.

Served between 10 and 12 °C, this dry white wine is a delightful accompaniment to oysters, shellfish, fine fish, scallops, risottos, poultry in cream sauce or pan-fried foie gras. With an ageing potential of 8 to 10 years, it will continue to develop further complexity.
