The Baron de Brane 2022 is the second wine of Château Brane-Cantenac, a renowned estate on Bordeaux’s left bank, situated in the heart of the Margaux appellation. It benefits from the expertise of this historic estate and a selection of plots that give it its own distinct identity. More approachable in its youth than the first wine, it retains the elegance, aromatic precision and quality of texture that characterise the estate’s wines.

The 2022 vintage is a blend of 65 per cent Merlot, 30 per cent Cabernet Sauvignon, 4 per cent Cabernet Franc and 1 per cent Petit Verdot. The Merlot brings roundness and fruit, whilst the Cabernet Sauvignon contributes structure and depth. The Cabernet Franc complements the blend with its aromatic nuances, and the Petit Verdot adds to the blend’s complexity.

On tasting, the Baron de Brane 2022 displays a deep garnet colour. Its expressive nose evokes black cherry, plum and dark berries, accompanied by notes of liquorice and a hint of menthol. On the palate, the wine is generous and harmonious. The texture is supple, the tannins are fine and velvety, and the freshness enhances the expression of the fruit. The finish prolongs the aromas with balance and elegance.

This Margaux is an excellent companion for hearty dishes. It pairs well with a grilled entrecôte, a fillet of beef, a roast rack of lamb or a duck breast. It also goes well with stews and dishes featuring mushrooms. Serve it at around 18 °C and allow it to breathe for about 1 hour 30 minutes, or even longer depending on how it develops in the glass.
