Saint Emilion Grand Cru Bordeaux Red Wine

The wines of Saint-Émilion Grand Cru Classé are perhaps the most renowned Bordeaux wines and are among the best known in the world. This appellation produces primarily red wines made from Merlot, Cabernet Franc, and Cabernet Sauvignon grapes. The wines of Saint-Émilion Grand Cru Classé are distinguished by their elegance, complexity, and exceptional aging potential.

Merlot, the dominant grape variety, contributes aromas of red and black fruits, plum, and cherry, as well as a silky texture and roundness on the palate. Cabernet Franc, used in smaller quantities, adds structure, aromas of violets and pepper, and a touch of spice. Cabernet Sauvignon, although less common, can contribute notes of blackcurrant and cedar, as well as additional tannic structure. These wines offer a rich and complex aromatic palette, with notes of ripe fruit, flowers, truffle, and sometimes tobacco. On the palate, they are full-bodied, balanced, and beautifully long.

The Saint-Émilion Grand Cru Classé wine classification is revised approximately every ten years. Here are some of the most renowned châteaux classified as Grand Cru Classés in Saint-Émilion:
