Description
Château TrotteVieille 2017 is an elegant Bordeaux red wine produced in the Saint-Émilion Grand Cru appellation and classified as a Premier Grand Cru Classé B.
The estate has belonged to the Castéja family since 1947 and is recognised for producing refined wines with remarkable freshness and mineral character.
Its history dates back to the Middle Ages, while its name is traditionally associated with an elderly woman who would hurry out to hear news whenever a stagecoach arrived nearby.
The vineyard covers approximately 12 hectares on the limestone plateau of Saint-Émilion.
Its soils consist of a relatively thin layer of clay over limestone, creating conditions particularly favourable to the expression of Cabernet Franc.
One of the estate's most distinctive features is a small parcel of Cabernet Franc vines that survived the phylloxera crisis of the nineteenth century.
The 2017 vintage is composed of 56% Cabernet Franc, 43% Merlot and 1% Cabernet Sauvignon.
Cabernet Franc provides aromatic elegance and freshness, while Merlot contributes fruit richness and a rounded texture. Cabernet Sauvignon completes the blend with additional structure.
Winemaking involves approximately four weeks of maceration, followed by 18 to 24 months of ageing in 100% new French oak barrels.
In the glass, Château TrotteVieille 2017 displays a deep garnet colour.
The nose is intensely fruity, revealing aromas of raspberry, blackcurrant and ripe red berries.
Delicate floral notes contribute finesse and aromatic complexity.
On the palate, the wine combines concentrated fruit with a structured yet elegant tannic profile.
Its lively freshness and distinctive mineral character lead to a particularly persistent finish.
The estate reports scores of 95/100 from James Suckling and 92/100 from Wine Advocate for this vintage.
The château suggests a drinking window from 2020 to 2030, although the wine's development will depend on storage conditions.
At the table, Château TrotteVieille 2017 pairs beautifully with roasted leg of lamb, venison, prime beef and mature soft cheeses.
Serving at approximately 16–18°C allows its aromatic expression and refined structure to be appreciated.
Presented in a 75cl bottle, this Premier Grand Cru Classé offers a compelling combination of Saint-Émilion heritage, Cabernet Franc elegance and limestone-driven freshness.
