Description
Château Trotanoy 2021 is an exceptional red wine produced in the prestigious Pomerol appellation on Bordeaux's Right Bank.
Renowned for its depth, concentration and ageing potential, Château Trotanoy is one of the most respected estates in the Libourne region.
The property has been managed by Établissements Jean-Pierre Moueix since 1953, maintaining a reputation for producing wines that combine power with remarkable elegance.
Its vineyard covers approximately 7.2 hectares on a particularly favourable section of the Pomerol plateau.
The soils consist of gravel over clay and deep black clay, supported by an iron-rich layer locally known as crasse de fer.
This distinctive geological composition contributes to the wine's structure, complexity and ability to develop over time.
The 2021 Bordeaux vintage presented numerous challenges, requiring careful vineyard management and precise decisions throughout the growing season.
Despite these difficulties, the estate produced a wine distinguished by freshness, balance and aromatic purity.
The grapes were harvested by hand between 27 September and 4 October 2021, followed by careful manual and optical sorting.
The blend consists of 96% Merlot and 4% Cabernet Franc.
Fermentation and maceration take place in temperature-controlled concrete and stainless-steel vats, with gentle and carefully managed extraction.
The wine is subsequently matured for 16 to 18 months in French oak barrels, with 50% new oak.
In the glass, Château Trotanoy 2021 displays a deep ruby colour.
The nose opens with aromas of black cherries, plums and dark berries, accompanied by liquorice, subtle earthy notes and hints of roasted coffee.
On the palate, the wine is medium to full-bodied, offering a broad entry and a creamy core of fruit.
Its tannins are fine and powdery, providing structure while preserving an elegant and approachable texture.
Freshness and aromatic precision contribute to a persistent finish marked by dark fruit, gentle spice and earthy complexity.
The 2021 vintage is particularly appealing for its balance between the estate's characteristic depth and the finesse associated with a cooler growing season.
With appropriate cellar conditions, Château Trotanoy 2021 can continue to develop for many years.
It pairs beautifully with roasted lamb, beef fillet, pigeon, duck and dishes featuring wild mushrooms.
Serving at approximately 16–18°C allows its complex bouquet and refined texture to be fully appreciated.
Presented in a 75cl bottle, Château Trotanoy 2021 represents an elegant expression of Pomerol and the expertise of Jean-Pierre Moueix.
