Château Labégorce 2022 is a Bordeaux red wine from the Margaux appellation, on the left bank of the Gironde. Made from Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot, it combines rich fruit with a tannic structure. The nose reveals notes of blackcurrant, blackberry and plum, enhanced by hints of liquorice and spices. On the palate, the wine is full-bodied, with firm yet harmonious tannins and a lingering finish. This Margaux is the perfect accompaniment to beef, roast lamb and game.
Description
Château Labégorce 2022 is a fine expression of the Margaux appellation, situated in the heart of the Médoc, on the left bank of Bordeaux. This historic estate, acquired by the Perrodo family in 1989, has gradually regained its place amongst the appellation’s most highly regarded estates. Its vineyards benefit from soils that are mainly sandy-gravelly and sandy-silty, characteristic of this part of Bordeaux and ideal for producing elegant, well-structured red wines.
The 2022 vintage is a blend of Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot. Each grape variety contributes to the final balance: Merlot brings roundness and fruitiness, Cabernet Sauvignon provides structure, whilst Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot enrich its aromatic complexity. The grapes are harvested by hand and then vinified with care. Ageing in barrels, some of which are new, helps to develop the aromas and integrate the tannins.
On tasting, the wine displays a deep ruby colour. The nose opens with intense aromas of blackcurrant, blackberry and plum, accompanied by notes of liquorice, sweet spices and woody undertones. On the palate, the wine is full-bodied and concentrated, with generous body and firm yet well-structured tannins. Its freshness supports the expression of the fruit and prolongs the finish, which reveals lovely aromatic persistence.
This Margaux pairs perfectly with a rib of beef, a roast beef fillet, a rack of lamb or a duck breast. It also goes well with game and slow-cooked dishes with mushrooms. To appreciate its balance, serve it at between 16 and 18 °C and allow it to breathe beforehand whilst it is still young.
Château Labégorce 2022 will appeal to lovers of fine Bordeaux wines seeking an expressive, structured and elegant Margaux, which can be enjoyed after aeration or cellared to follow its development.
