Château Marquis d’Alesme 2022 is a fine red wine from Margaux, classified as a Third Grand Cru in 1855. Its blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Petit Verdot and Cabernet Franc reveals aromas of blackcurrant, blackberry, cherry and violet, enhanced by notes of cedar and spices. On the palate, it combines depth, freshness and silky tannins, with a lingering finish. This Médoc wine is the perfect accompaniment to a roast rack of lamb, a rib of beef or a duck breast. Its structure also gives it excellent ageing potential.
Description
Château Marquis d’Alesme 2022 is a fine example of the refinement of the great red wines of the Médoc. Situated in the heart of the Margaux appellation, this historic estate is listed amongst the Third Grand Crus Classés in the 1855 classification. Since its acquisition by the Perrodo family in 2006, the estate has benefited from significant investment, with particular attention paid to the vineyard, grape selection and precision in winemaking.
The 2022 vintage is a blend of 63 per cent Cabernet Sauvignon, 30 per cent Merlot, 5 per cent Petit Verdot and 2 per cent Cabernet Franc. Cabernet Sauvignon forms the backbone of the wine, providing structure and depth. The Merlot contributes to the wine’s roundness and the richness of the fruit, whilst the other two grape varieties enhance its aromatic complexity. The vineyard is situated on varied soils, combining clay-limestone with siliceous or clayey gravel, which all contribute to the character of this cuvée.
The grapes are harvested by hand and then rigorously sorted. Vinification takes place in temperature-controlled wooden, stainless steel and concrete vats, allowing the winemaking process to be tailored to each plot. Ageing lasts approximately 18 months in French oak barrels, 60 per cent of which are new.
On the nose, the bouquet combines blackcurrant, blackberry and cherry with floral notes of violet, cedar and spices. On the palate, it reveals a deep body, supported by fine, silky tannins. Its freshness maintains the balance and prolongs an elegant, lingering finish.
Serve this Margaux at between 16 and 18 °C, after allowing it to breathe properly. It pairs perfectly with a roast rack of lamb, a rib of beef or a duck breast. Its structure also means it can be cellared for several years.
