Tokinoka Black Blended Japanese Whisky 50cl is an expressive whisky produced by Eigashima Shuzo – White Oak Distillery, located in Akashi, near Kobe, Japan.

Created by master blender Akito Ueda, this distinctive expression offers a richer and more intense interpretation of the original Tokinoka blend.

The Tokinoka name is commonly translated as “fragrance of time”, reflecting the importance of maturation and the development of complex aromas in whisky production.

White Oak Distillery belongs to Eigashima Shuzo, a historic Japanese producer associated with both traditional sake and whisky.

Tokinoka Black demonstrates the company's blending expertise through a carefully balanced combination of 50% malt whisky and 50% grain whisky.

The generous proportion of malt contributes aromatic depth and structure, while the grain whisky provides smoothness and balance.

One of the defining characteristics of Tokinoka Black is the influence of three different types of oak casks.

The whiskies are matured in ex-Bourbon barrels, ex-Sherry casks and new oak barrels, each contributing distinctive aromatic qualities.

Ex-Bourbon casks introduce notes of vanilla and gentle sweetness. Sherry casks add fruity richness, while new oak provides toasted and spicy nuances.

The resulting blend offers an appealing combination of fruit, oak and warm spices.

In the glass, Tokinoka Black displays a rich golden colour with amber highlights.

The nose opens with aromas of tropical fruits, including pineapple and mango, accompanied by citrus and toasted oak.

Subtle hints of honey, vanilla and sweet spices contribute additional complexity.

On the palate, the whisky is rounded, creamy and generous. Ripe fruit flavours combine with citrus freshness, followed by toasted wood and warming spices.

Notes of ginger, cinnamon and black pepper gradually emerge, creating an attractive balance between sweetness and intensity.

The finish is persistent and elegant, with lingering vanilla, honey and oak.

Bottled at 50% alcohol by volume, Tokinoka Black is a non-age-statement blended whisky designed to showcase the interaction between malt, grain and different cask types.

It is particularly enjoyable neat in a tulip-shaped whisky glass, allowing its aromas to develop gradually.

Adding a few drops of water can soften its intensity and reveal additional fruity notes.

This whisky also pairs beautifully with dark chocolate, roasted nuts and caramel-based desserts.
