Black Mountain N°1 Excellence is a blended whisky that combines whiskies distilled in the United Kingdom with blending and additional maturation carried out in south-western France. The brand’s approach is built around selecting complementary whiskies and giving them a regional identity through the use of Montagne Noire spring water and casks that previously held Armagnac.

The N°1 blend brings together two components with different maturation profiles. The younger whisky is matured for 12 months in Armagnac casks from Maison Mao Spirits. The second component, aged for eight years, receives six months of additional maturation in the same type of cask. The whiskies are then blended to balance freshness, aromatic richness and depth. The final alcoholic strength is adjusted to 42% ABV using water from the Montagne Noire.

The nose is intense and layered, combining floral aromas with grain, honey and vanilla-like oak. On the palate, citrus notes appear first, followed by cereal flavours and a more pronounced spice character, including pepper and nutmeg. The finish is refined and persistent, with a subtle smoky note that adds another dimension to the blend.

The role of the Armagnac casks is central to the whisky’s identity. They provide an additional maturation influence while allowing the underlying character of the blended whiskies to remain recognisable. This approach connects British whisky-making traditions with the cask heritage of Gascony, where Armagnac has long been matured in oak.

Black Mountain N°1 Excellence is particularly suited to drinkers who enjoy aromatic complexity rather than a single dominant flavour.
