The Black Mountain Organic Single Malt 45° 70 cl is a fine example of the vibrancy of French whisky. Produced in Occitanie, it forms part of an approach that highlights French raw materials and expertise inspired by both the whisky-making tradition and the world of the great spirits of the South-West.

At the heart of this whisky lies French spring barley grown using organic farming methods. After mashing, the whisky is distilled in a traditional Charentais-style still. This stage produces a rich distillate, in which notes of grain, fruit and rich flavours are already evident.

Maturation then adds an essential dimension to the Black Mountain style. The whisky matures in two types of cask. Part of it is placed in new French oak casks, which impart spicy, roasted and toasty notes. The other portion continues to mature in casks that previously held prestigious spirits from Gascony, notably Armagnac. This influence helps to give the whisky its roundness and unique character.

On tasting, the nose opens with notes of cereal and malt, then develops into hints of apple, pear and lemon. Spicy notes round off this initial impression. On the palate, the texture is generous and the woody notes come to the fore. There are aromas of toast, cereals, spices and fruit in syrup.

The finish is lingering, characterised by a lovely malty presence and subtle tannic and woody nuances.

Bottled at 45% ABV, this French Black Mountain Single Malt offers a rich and expressive tasting experience. It can be enjoyed neat, at room temperature, or with a few drops of water to further reveal its aromatic nuances.
