La Turque 2022 is one of Maison E. Guigal’s legendary single-vineyard wines, alongside La Mouline and La Landonne. Its blend of 93% Syrah and 7% Viognier offers a unique character where the power of the Côte Brune meets the delicacy of the Côte Blonde. The nose reveals aromas of blackberry, black cherry, violet, spices and liquorice. On the palate, it is full-bodied, concentrated and velvety, supported by refined tannins and exceptional length. A truly great wine for laying down, intended for connoisseurs of the finest expressions of the Rhône Valley.
Description
E. Guigal, based in Ampuis since 1946, is renowned worldwide for its exceptional single-vineyard wines. La Turque comes from an iconic plot situated on a siliceous-calcareous terroir composed of weathered mica schist, resulting in clay soils rich in iron oxides. The vines, which are around 40 years old, produce grapes of great concentration. Following a long maceration of around four weeks with automated punching down, the wine is aged for 40 months in new oak barrels, developing remarkable depth and complexity.
The blend comprises 93 per cent Syrah and 7 per cent Viognier. The Syrah contributes intense aromas of blackcurrant, blackberry, black cherry, pepper, liquorice and graphite, whilst the Viognier adds an elegant floral dimension with notes of violet and white flowers, whilst refining the wine’s texture.
The colour is a deep ruby red with dark highlights. The nose is intense and complex, revealing aromas of red berries, blackberry, morello cherry, spices, cocoa, roasted notes and subtle smoky hints. On the palate, the attack is supple and harmonious. The body is dense, concentrated and silky, supported by perfectly integrated tannins. The finish is exceptionally long, characterised by notes of black fruit, spices, graphite and fine oak.
Served between 16 and 18 °C, this great Côte-Rôtie is the ideal accompaniment to large game, a matured rib of beef, roast pigeon, pheasant, hare à la royale or mature cheeses. It has an ageing potential of around 25 years, or even longer in the finest vintages.
