E. Guigal La Landonne 2022: an iconic Côte-Rôtie wine

Produced from a plot planted in 1975, the year Philippe Guigal was born, La Landonne has become a global benchmark amongst the great wines of the Rhône Valley. This cuvée is produced exclusively from 100% Syrah grapes, harvested as whole bunches from vines around 50 years old, rooted in a schist-clay terroir rich in iron oxides and manganese. This unique soil lends the wine an impressive structure, great minerality and unrivalled depth. Following a long maceration, the wine is aged for 40 months in new oak barrels, a process that refines the tannins whilst developing exceptional aromatic complexity.

The colour is a deep, intense black-red. The nose reveals a richly layered aromatic palette blending blackcurrant, blackberry, blueberry, liquorice, leather, violet, black pepper, oriental spices, cocoa and roasted coffee. On the palate, the attack is powerful, with a dense and concentrated body. The perfectly ripe tannins underpin an impressive structure whilst retaining remarkable elegance. The endless finish reveals notes of smoke, graphite, truffle and fine oak.

Served at between 16 and 18 °C, this great Côte-Rôtie is the ideal accompaniment to a fillet of beef, hare à la royale, saddle of roe deer, roast pigeon, suckling lamb or mature cheeses. It has an ageing potential of over 40 to 50 years, making it a true collector’s bottle.
