A1710 Bête à Feu: Expressive White Agricultural Rum from Martinique
Bête à Feu is a white agricultural rum produced by the artisanal A1710 distillery at Habitation du Simon in Le François, Martinique. Made from fresh sugar cane juice, the cane is harvested by hand and pressed only once to extract the juice used for fermentation. The rum is distilled in a copper still fitted with a seven-plate column, then slowly reduced to 50.9% ABV. Its aromatic profile highlights fresh sugar cane, white flowers, honey and citrus zest, with a distinctive mineral character. On the palate, floral and fruity flavours develop, including pear and honey, followed by a long finish with mineral notes and a subtle peppery touch. Presented in a 70 cl bottle, Bête à Feu is ideal for enthusiasts who appreciate characterful agricultural rums. Enjoy it neat to explore its aromatic complexity or use it to prepare a traditional Ti’Punch, where its fresh cane character brings intensity and personality to the cocktail.
Description
A1710 Bête à Feu: Fresh Cane Character and Artisanal Distillation
Bête à Feu is a white agricultural rum from Martinique, produced by the A1710 distillery at Habitation du Simon in Le François. The distillery combines traditional craftsmanship with a distinctive approach to distillation, placing the character of fresh sugar cane at the centre of its rum-making process.
The cane is harvested by hand and pressed only once to obtain the juice used for fermentation. The resulting fermented cane juice is distilled in a copper still fitted with a seven-plate column. After distillation, the rum is slowly reduced to 50.9% ABV. This white expression focuses on the aromatic character of the distillate rather than on flavours derived from oak maturation.
On the nose, Bête à Feu reveals fresh sugar cane, floral notes and honey, accompanied by citrus zest and a mineral nuance. The palate is rounded and expressive, combining floral character with fruity notes of pear and a honeyed sweetness. Its finish is persistent, with a mineral impression and a gentle peppery touch. The combination of freshness, fruit and minerality gives this rum a distinctive personality.
Bottled at 50.9% ABV in a 70 cl format, Bête à Feu can be enjoyed neat in a suitable tasting glass, allowing its aromatic layers to develop gradually. It is also an excellent option for a traditional Ti’Punch. A little cane sugar and a twist of lime can complement the rum without overwhelming its fresh, floral character.
This rum will appeal to enthusiasts who enjoy agricultural rums made from fresh cane juice and appreciate the influence of distillation on flavour. It also offers an interesting introduction to the artisanal side of Martinique rum production. Bête à Feu showcases how careful handling of the raw material and a distinctive still configuration can produce a white rum with intensity, aromatic detail and a long, memorable finish.
