Situated at the heart of the Coteaux du Layon Suronde appellation, Kathleen Van den Berghe’s estate showcases a terroir renowned for producing great sweet wines from the Loire. The La Symboliste 2023 cuvée is made exclusively from 100% Chenin Blanc, the region’s iconic grape variety, renowned for its extraordinary ability to combine aromatic richness, freshness and ageing potential. The grapes are harvested at perfect ripeness to achieve natural concentration whilst retaining the characteristic tension of Chenin.

The estate benefits from the guidance of Stéphane Derenoncourt, one of the world’s most renowned consultant oenologists. His philosophy is based on a plot-by-plot approach, viticulture that respects natural balances, and minimal intervention during winemaking, allowing the terroir’s full identity to shine through. This constant pursuit of precision gives the wine great aromatic purity and remarkable balance.

The colour is a brilliant golden yellow. The bouquet develops aromas of quince, pear, apricot, pineapple, acacia honey, white flowers, candied citrus fruits and a delicate mineral note. On the palate, the attack is full-bodied and generous. The sweetness is perfectly balanced by lovely acidity, which brings freshness and length. The finish is lingering, elegant and briny, leaving an impression of great finesse.

Served between 8 and 10 °C, this Coteaux du Layon Suronde is the ideal accompaniment to foie gras, pan-fried scallops, mildly spiced Asian cuisine, blue-veined cheeses, a fruit tart or a dessert featuring pears and apricots.
