This Coteaux du Giennois from the Domaine de la Perrière offers a complex nose of white flowers, blackcurrant and chalk, with a mineral and fruity palate, similar to a quality Sancerre or a well-balanced Pouilly-Fumé. Its freshness and length make it a versatile white wine, to be enjoyed with oysters, sushi or fresh goat's cheese. A Sauvignon from the Loire that is every bit as good as its more prestigious neighbours.
Description
Coteaux du Giennois Blanc Domaine de la Perrière, 100% Sauvignon, is a white wine that can rival appellations such as Sancerre and Pouilly-Fumé in terms of purity and minerality. Grown on south-facing clay-limestone plots, it expresses all the typical characteristics of the Loire terroir: an intense nose of fresh boxwood, pink grapefruit and flint, with a touch of broom flower reminiscent of the appellation's grands crus. On the palate, the attack is lively and precise, with mineral tension and an immediate roundness, and a finish with notes of candied lemon zest and white pepper.
An ideal wine to accompany Bouzigues oysters, mature Crottin de Chavignol goat's cheese or asparagus tart. Unlike some overly herbaceous Sauvignons, this Coteaux du Giennois combines aromatic finesse and persistence, with a touch of exotic fruit (lychee, passion fruit).
