Description
The Old Tom style of Gin Makar harks back to the 18th century. During that time, illicit producers would distill their gin in secret and would signal the availability of their gin using a sign depicting a black cat (or "Old Tom") outside their premises.
The Old Tom Gin version from the Urban Makar distillery (completely legitimate, of course) uses botanicals such as fresh oranges, almonds, and anise, along with more juniper berries compared to the Classic Gin Makar. The slight sweetness of this gin is achieved by adding a small amount of honey.
This Old Tom Gin from the Makar distillery in Glasgow is a very well-balanced gin.
