Bourgogne Chardonnay Aged in Acacia barrels by Château de l'Hestrange 75 cl

Bourgogne Chardonnay Aged in Acacia barrels by Château de l'Hestrange 75 cl

Château de l’Hestrange Bourgogne Chardonnay 2020: Aged in Acacia Wood

The 2020 Bourgogne Chardonnay from Château de l’Hestrange is a distinctive white Burgundy created by Laurent Metge-Toppin. Its defining feature is an ageing period of 14 months in acacia-wood barrels, an unusual choice that gives this Chardonnay a character different from wines matured in the more commonly used oak barrels.

The cuvée was first created in 2012 to commemorate the Diamond Jubilee of Queen Elizabeth II. Its aromatic profile is notably floral, with scents of acacia blossom, wisteria, lilac and honeysuckle. On the palate, the wine is rounded and fruity, finishing with a mineral note that brings a sense of freshness and highlights its Burgundy identity.

This dry white wine is suitable for serving as an aperitif or alongside seafood, shellfish and fish dishes. It also pairs well with scallops, whose delicate flavour complements the wine’s floral character. Serving it at around 12°C helps preserve its aromatic expression.

Presented in a 75 cl bottle, this 2020 vintage will appeal to Chardonnay enthusiasts interested in distinctive ageing methods and white Burgundy with a floral, mineral profile.

Description

Château de l’Hestrange Bourgogne Chardonnay 2020: The Distinctive Character of Acacia Ageing

The 2020 Bourgogne Chardonnay from Château de l’Hestrange offers a distinctive interpretation of white Burgundy through its unusual ageing method. Created by Laurent Metge-Toppin, the wine is matured for 14 months in acacia-wood barrels. This choice sets it apart from Chardonnay wines more commonly aged in oak and contributes to its distinctive floral identity.

The story behind the cuvée dates back to 2012, when Laurent Metge-Toppin created the wine to commemorate the Diamond Jubilee of Queen Elizabeth II, marking 60 years of her reign. The commemorative occasion inspired a wine whose individuality is expressed through its ageing and aromatic profile.

The nose is particularly floral, with notes of acacia blossom, wisteria, lilac and honeysuckle. On the palate, the wine is rounded and fruity. A mineral finish adds another dimension, balancing the richness of the texture and extending the tasting experience. The combination of floral aromas, fruit and minerality gives this Chardonnay a profile that is both expressive and distinctive.

At the table, it can be served as an aperitif or paired with oysters, seafood and shellfish. Scallops are another suitable match, while grilled fish or fish served with a delicate sauce can complement the wine’s aromatic character. Dishes with subtle seasoning are preferable so that the floral notes remain clearly perceptible.

Serving the wine at approximately 12°C helps preserve its freshness and aromatic detail. The 2020 vintage will appeal to wine lovers who enjoy exploring different approaches to Chardonnay ageing and who appreciate a white Burgundy with a story behind its creation.
