Château Trotanoy Pomerol 2019 – A Remarkable 100% Merlot Bordeaux Wine

Château Trotanoy 2019 is an exceptional red wine from Pomerol, one of the most prestigious appellations on Bordeaux's Right Bank.

Renowned for its remarkable depth, concentration and longevity, Château Trotanoy has been managed by Établissements Jean-Pierre Moueix since 1953.

The estate covers 7.2 hectares on the famous Pomerol plateau, where gravel over clay and deep black clay rest on an iron-rich layer known as crasse de fer.

These distinctive soils contribute to the wine's powerful structure, aromatic complexity and exceptional ageing potential.

The 2019 vintage was marked by a warm, sunny summer. Rainfall in late July helped the vines maintain their development, allowing the Merlot grapes to achieve excellent ripeness.

The wine is produced from 100% Merlot, harvested on 21 September 2019.

Following careful selection, fermentation and maceration take place in temperature-controlled concrete and stainless-steel vats.

The wine is then matured for 16 to 18 months in French oak barrels, with approximately 50% new oak.

In the glass, Château Trotanoy 2019 displays a deep garnet-purple colour.

The nose opens with aromas of ripe black cherries, blackberries and blueberries, complemented by graphite, violets and dark chocolate.

Additional notes of cedar, tobacco and warm earth enrich its aromatic expression.

On the palate, the wine is full-bodied, concentrated and beautifully structured.

Its ripe, finely textured tannins support layers of dark fruit, while a mineral freshness brings precision and balance.

The finish is exceptionally persistent, revealing graphite, cocoa and subtle spice.

This outstanding vintage received 100 points from Jeb Dunnuck, 99 points from The Wine Independent and 98 points from James Suckling.

Its impressive structure and concentration make it particularly suitable for extended cellaring.

At the table, Château Trotanoy 2019 pairs beautifully with prime beef, roasted lamb, pigeon, venison and dishes featuring wild mushrooms or black truffles.

Serving at approximately 16–18°C allows its complex aromas and elegant texture to develop.
