Potocki Rye Polish Vodka 70 cl

Potocki Rye Polish Vodka 70 cl

Potocki Polish Rye Vodka: Double Distilled and Unfiltered

Potocki Vodka is a traditional Polish spirit made exclusively from locally grown rye. Inspired by the distilling heritage of the aristocratic Potocki family, it is produced using a method designed to preserve the natural flavours and texture of the grain.

The rye is milled, fermented and distilled twice in a column still. Unlike many vodkas, Potocki is not filtered through activated charcoal. This deliberate choice helps retain the aromatic character of rye and contributes to a rich, velvety mouthfeel.

The spirit is reduced to its bottling strength of 40% ABV using distilled water, then allowed to rest before bottling.

On the nose, Potocki displays fresh rye aromas, followed by lemon and coconut milk. The palate is smooth and expressive, combining cereal flavours with peppery spices, coconut and praline.

The finish is long and elegant, with notes of red berries, citrus and toasted rye.

Presented in a 70 cl bottle, Potocki is particularly suitable for serving neat and well chilled. Its cereal character also makes it a natural pairing for smoked salmon, caviar and cured meats.

Description

Potocki Vodka: Polish Aristocratic Heritage and the Character of Rye

Potocki is a Polish rye vodka whose identity combines traditional grain distillation with the history of the aristocratic Potocki family. The brand draws inspiration from a distilling tradition associated with Łańcut Castle in Poland, dating back to 1816.

During the nineteenth century, Potocki vodka developed a reputation beyond Poland. According to the brand's historical account, it was served at the imperial court in Vienna from 1856.

Today, the vodka is distinguished by its use of 100% rye and a production process designed to preserve the grain's aromatic qualities.

Rye has a longstanding association with Polish vodka production. Compared with spirits made from other raw materials, rye-based vodkas can display a particularly expressive cereal profile, accompanied by peppery or nutty notes.

Potocki begins with locally grown rye, which is milled and prepared for fermentation. Yeast converts the available sugars into alcohol, producing a fermented mash ready for distillation.

The spirit then undergoes two slow distillations in a column still. The resulting alcohol is carefully selected before being reduced with distilled water to the final bottling strength of 40% ABV.

One of the most important aspects of the production process is the decision not to use activated charcoal filtration. This treatment is common in vodka production, particularly when the objective is to create a highly neutral spirit.

Potocki instead retains more of the natural character associated with rye. The recipe also avoids additives such as glycerine and citric acid.

After reduction, the vodka is allowed to rest before bottling. This stage helps integrate the spirit and contributes to its smooth texture.

The tasting experience begins with fresh rye aromas, followed by lemon and coconut milk. These notes give the nose a distinctive combination of cereal richness and citrus freshness.

On the palate, Potocki has a rich, velvety texture. Rye flavours develop alongside peppery spices, coconut and praline. The finish is persistent, with red berries, citrus fruit and toasted rye.

This flavour profile makes Potocki particularly suitable for neat tasting. Serving it well chilled allows the vodka's texture and grain character to remain perceptible.

Traditional food pairings include caviar, smoked fish, cured meats and pickled preparations. The vodka's cereal and spice notes can also complement dishes with pronounced savoury flavours.

Potocki may be used in classic cocktails such as a Vodka Martini, Moscow Mule or Bloody Mary, particularly when a more characterful vodka is desired.

Its angular bottle design recalls historical glassware associated with the Potocki family's distilling heritage.

Potocki offers a distinctive interpretation of Polish vodka, based on locally grown rye, double distillation and the deliberate preservation of natural grain aromas.
